dealing as it does with exotic and strange beliefs of 
various cultures and ages.

The material contained within this book has been 
taken from grimories (the book of magic of the middle ages) 
and other sources legend and folklore.

With such material, except in a few instances, 
it has been impossible to quote direct sources.  
No record was kept of the beginnings of a legend, 
and the best that can be properly done is to give 
credit to the country, age, and culture whence it 
seems to have sprung.
